There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
