There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
